George Catlett Marshall (December 31, 1880 – October 16, 1959) was an American military General and Chief of Staff of the Army.

He was the Secretary of State, and the third person to be Secretary of Defense. 

 He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1953.

Impact  on history


He was America's best soldier during World War II, served as chief of staff from 1939-1945, building and directing the largest army in history.

In his position as chief of staff, Marshall encouraged military readiness after the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. Later on he became responsible for the building, supplying, and, was part of the deploying of over eight million soldiers into battle.
